Children
The gentle non-invasive techniques which osteopathy and in particular cranial osteopathy utilise make it an extremely effective treatment for babies and children.
In order to adapt to the pressure and forces exerted upon it during labour, an infant’s skull allows for a slight amount of movement. Complications such as premature birth, traumatic labour or a forceps delivery may affect the ability of the skull to fully recover from the distortion causing the baby to experience discomfort and possibly leading to a number of functional problems.
By diagnosing, managing and treating problems associated with growth the osteopath is able to play a large part in laying the foundations for children to become fit and healthy adults.
Common disorders which respond well to osteopathic treatment include:
feeding difficulties
colic and disturbed sleep patterns
recurrent infections such as glue ear
problems with co-ordination
physical development
