Josh Taylor currently holds two prestigious titles, WBO and Ring magazine light-welterweight world championship, which he has held since 2021 and 2019 respectively. From 2019 to 2022 Josh was also a former unified champion, having held the WBA (Super), WBC and IBF titles. His impressive record and accomplishments in the ring have solidified his position as one of the top fighters in the world.
In 2019 Josh suffered a hand wrist injury during a winning match against Jose Ramirez in Las Vegas. The injury left him with pain, stiffness, and loss of range of motion in his wrist and hand. After struggling to recover fully, Josh thought his only option was surgery.
He sought the advice of coach Terry McCormack of Lochend Boxing Club, who recommended a course of non-invasive focused shockwave therapy at How Osteopathic Clinic in Edinburgh with osteopath and shockwave expert Helen How. The recommendation came after Terry learned about the therapy’s benefits from Nicola Duncan, an ultra marathon runner who had undergone shockwave treatment with Helen. Terry and his wife had also undergone the therapy over the years, giving them a good understanding of when it would be beneficial for the club’s boxers.

Following an assessment and a detailed discussion of his condition, Josh underwent a four-week course of focused shockwave therapy to aid his rehabilitation. The treatment proved to be fruitful, enabling Josh to return to full training and keep his hands strong and pain-free, whilst avoiding risky surgery.
In the January of 2023 Josh suffered an injury whilst training in Liverpool, tearing his plantar fascia tendon and experiencing horrendous pain in his foot. This time, he and his coaches did not hesitate to recommend a course of focused shockwave therapy alongside wearing a boot to optimise pain reduction and tissue recovery.
With focused shockwave therapy’s healing benefits, Josh is able to prepare for his next fight at New York’s Madison Square Gardens with confidence. By accelerating bone healing and regeneration, this non-invasive therapy allowed Josh to recover from his hand and foot injuries faster and return to the ring stronger than ever. His successful recovery from both injuries is a testament to the effectiveness of focused shockwave therapy for athletes, helping them to overcome injuries and perform at their best.
